Hi, Mattylad! I wish that manufacturers would list colors too; it's slowly happening, but probably won't ever be a widespread thing.
How can we add more filament colours to this list?
Complete instructions are available here: https://filamentcolors.xyz/donating/
How do you get the code in the first place?
I physically measure the printed swatch with a spectrophotometer. This gives me information about how light reflects off the printed plastic and that gets converted into a hex color for ease of use.
Would a simple dropper/pick from the website be adequate?
Unfortunately not; the biggest reason that the library exists at all is because manufacturers have a habit of tweaking their photos to make their filament look as good as it can; that directly translates (sometimes, but not always) to end users getting filament that's not the same color as what they thought they were ordering. Since we want to know what the actual color of the filament is, measuring it in hand is the only way.
Any chance of some form of entry form?
Not for colors, no. However, I'm working on a way for folks to submit Transmission Distance values (TD values) for filaments (including ones that I've measured myself) but colors must be measured by myself.
...Where we could show the sales website for it with details on? Or would you need a physical sample?
Gotta have the physical sample. This also serves an additional purpose of having a physical copy of the entire library; for every swatch that's on the website, I have the physical version archived away in case it's needed again sometime in the future.
I hope that answers everything 😄
